Where do you work?

Refinement serves homes and workplaces in Washington, DC and surrounding Maryland and Virginia communities. Availability is confirmed for your project address before booking.

What happens during a consultation?

The complimentary 15-minute virtual discovery consultation covers your goals, general needs and fit. The $100, 30-minute on-site walkthrough reviews the priority space, preliminary scope and access. Neither includes hands-on organizing or a detailed design and shopping plan. Detailed planning is scoped through The Restore.

If you move forward with a Refinement project package of $500 or more within 14 days, your $100 consultation fee will be applied toward your project balance.

Consultation fees are non-refundable and are not applied to Hourly Refinement sessions.

How are projects priced?

The Reset and The Restart offer a Half Day starting at $500 for four hours of service, an Extended Session starting at $650 for six hours of service, and a Full Day starting at $800 for an eight-hour appointment including a 30-minute break and 7.5 hours of hands-on service. One focused space or multiple smaller areas may be addressed within the reserved time.

Scope and final pricing are confirmed after reviewing your project details. Completion depends on the volume of belongings and decisions needed; additional time requires a separate booking or prior approval. The Restore is priced by planning and sourcing scope. The Refresh is scoped for returning-client maintenance. Products, delivery and approved product expenses are separate from service fees.

Do I need to buy containers before we start?

No. We begin with what you already own and identify what the space actually needs. Any recommended products and their budget are approved before purchasing. Storage planning and sourcing can be included in an agreed scope.

Should I tidy up before you arrive?

You don't need to organize the space first. Seeing it as you use it helps me understand what isn't working. Please provide safe access, secure pets and make sure the agreed areas are available. Set aside private or sensitive items you prefer to handle yourself.

Will I need to be involved?

We'll agree on your involvement before the session. Decisions about what to keep, release or relocate remain yours. Being available for those decisions helps the work progress, while placement and organizing can follow the priorities we establish together.

Can you assemble furniture?

Yes. Assembly of ready-to-build furniture and storage pieces can be included when agreed in your project scope. Share the product details before booking so we can confirm what is needed. Furniture design, custom fabrication, moving and heavy lifting are outside this service.

Can you help after I've moved?

Yes. The Restart is designed for unpacking and establishing useful household systems after your belongings have been delivered. Moving, transporting furniture and heavy lifting need to be arranged with a separate provider.

Do you clean or take away donations?

Refinement does not provide cleaning, hauling or donation transport. We can sort and identify items for release within the agreed organizing scope. Donation pickup, disposal and transport are arranged separately.

Can I book ongoing maintenance?

Yes. The Refresh is for returning clients who want seasonal adjustments or help maintaining systems we created together. Visits and scope are tailored to the space and your current needs.

Can you support a workplace or a special project?

Yes. Refinement works in homes and workplaces. Local coordination, vendor access, errands and event-material or project support are quoted separately as Special Projects. Each assignment has a defined scope and approved expenses.

Will my home or information appear online?

Client information is treated with care. Portfolio use of project photographs is discussed separately and requires permission. You can decline portfolio use and still receive services.

Project Policies

Clear expectations.
Considered service.

Your written proposal and service agreement confirm the terms for your engagement.

Scope and approval

The agreed scope, service fee and any product or expense allowance are confirmed before work begins. Additional spaces, tasks, procurement or implementation are approved and priced separately.

Payment and date confirmation

A retainer is paid when booking to reserve the appointment. The remaining service balance is due at completion of service, according to your proposal or invoice. An inquiry or preferred date does not reserve an appointment.

Products and project expenses

Products, delivery and approved product expenses are separate. Product purchases and their budget are approved and paid before ordering. Any purchase or return arrangements are confirmed in your project scope.

Cancellation & Rescheduling

Appointments may be cancelled or rescheduled with at least 24 hours’ notice. Changes made with less than 24 hours’ notice may be subject to a late cancellation fee. Same-day cancellations and missed appointments may be non-refundable. Refinement reserves dedicated project time for each client.

Access and readiness

Provide the complete project address and any unit, entry or building instructions before an on-site visit. The agreed areas must be accessible, with pets secured and a clear, safe route through the space.

Safe working conditions

Refinement does not work around active pests, infestations, biohazards or unsafe conditions. These must be resolved by an appropriate provider before services can proceed.

Service boundaries

Cleaning, moving, heavy lifting, hauling, donation transport, consignment and bartending are outside Refinement's services. Construction and specialist installation are arranged with qualified providers.

Belongings and decisions

You decide what to keep, release or relocate. We'll agree on the decision-making process and your availability before organizing. Set aside personal, confidential or sensitive items you wish to manage yourself.

Photography and discretion

Project photography and public portfolio use are discussed separately. Permission is requested before publishing images, with identifying information handled carefully.
